Member Classifications
Participation in Alabama 811 may be in one of the following classes:

PRINCIPAL MEMBER
Any entity which owns or operates a public or private underground facility which furnishes services, information or materials, or transports or transmits electric energy, light, water, steam, oil, gas, gases, mixture of gases, petroleum, petroleum products, hazardous or flammable liquids, toxic or corrosive fluids and gases or items of like nature, and telecommunications, cable television, drainage, sewage or traffic control systems or systems of a like nature, and in doing so pays to the Corporation not less than 14% of the Corporation’s annual invoiced revenues. Principal Membership conveys no voting privileges. However, a Principal Member is allowed to appoint one (1) member of the Board.

GENERAL MEMBER
Any entity which owns or operates a public or private underground facility which furnishes services, information or materials, or transports or transmits electric energy, light, water, steam, oil, gas, gases, mixture of gases, petroleum, petroleum products, hazardous or flammable liquids, toxic or corrosive fluids and gases or items of like nature, and telecommunications, cable television, drainage, sewage or traffic control systems or systems of a like nature. General Membership conveys full voting privileges.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER
An Associate Member is a person, firm, corporation or other business entity which is qualified to do business in the State of Alabama and does business in the State of Alabama and in doing so, as a contract locator or a contractor, furnishes goods or services to Principal or General Member; or, a person, firm corporation, association, public agency or other entity, as determined by the Board of Directors from time to time, who which to receive notification of certain proposed excavation activities and also share the concerns and promote the objectives of the Corporation for the protection of the general public, excavators and underground facilities.

SUPPORTING MEMBER
A Supporting Member is a person, firm, corporation, association, public agency or other business entity which is qualified to do business in the State of Alabama and does business in the State of Alabama and which does within the course and scope of its activity furnishes goods, services, information or advice to a Principal, General or Associate Member, or to any person, firm, business entity, governmental agency or political subdivision availing itself of the services of AL 811 and also share the concerns and promote the objectives of the Corporation for the protection of the general public, excavators and underground facilities.

• Upon execution of the appropriate membership agreement, all members of Alabama 811 shall be governed by the Bylaws of the Corporation and AL 811 Operating Procedures.
• The Principal Membership Agreement outlines the membership procedures, which are to be followed in the operation of AL 811, and delineated the responsibilities of a Principal Member. Only those organizations that execute a Principal Member Agreement are to be designated as Principal Members.
• The General Membership Agreement states those terms and conditions under which members may be accepted and permitted to participate in AL 811 as General Members.
• The Associate Membership Agreement states those terms and condition under which members may be accepted and permitted to participate in AL 811 as Associate Members.
• The Supporting Membership Agreement states those terms and conditions under which members may be accepted and permitted to participate in AL 811 as Supporting Members.
