EDUCATIONAL SAFETY MEETINGS

Damage Prevention Education and Safety Meetings

Alabama 811's education efforts to increase the damage prevention message and the importance of safe digging practices, continued this spring and summer throughout Alabama. In addition to excavators and member underground facility operators, and contractors, these meetings also included many state, city and county public works employees.

A typical educational presentation covers the basics of Alabama's Underground Damage Prevention Act 94-487, reviews Alabama 811's purpose and objectives, and the proper notification procedures to follow when calling Alabama 811 prior to excavation activities. Safe digging practices and a short video are included as well.
