AOC NEWS

  • April 2007 - New legislation has been introduced in the the Alabama House and Senate for the 2007 session. See the legislation page for further information.
  • February 2007 - Beginning in May 2007, a national abbreviated number - 811 - will be activated to allow exacavators to contact a state one-call center directly. This will be available for both wireless and landlines. The calls will be routed based on the originating telephone number to determine which state one call should be notified. In a case where  a contractor may be dialing from a Georgia number and needing the Alabama 811, they will be redirected from the Georgia Utilities Protection Center  to Alabama 811.  We will still maintain our local and national 800 number for direct dialing as well. You will see some media compaigns for the new 811 logo in the near future.  This is another avenue to make "calling before you dig" as accessible as possible. Additional information about 811 can be found at the national campaign site call811.com or at Common Ground Alliance's site

cga-811.com.

  • February 2007 - Alabama 811 has begun construction on a new office facility. Since the beginning of operations in 1975, we have either operated in leased space from one of our utility companies or another leasing agent.  The Board of Directors for Alabama 811 has agreed that the time has come that it is more cost effective for Alabama 811 to own its own building rather than continue to lease. Our new 7200 square foot facility will be located just north of Downtown Birmingham on Highway 31 North in Fultondale. We are hoping to be relocated to our new offices by September 2007.
